Khamzat Chimaev received what was coming to him from an angry spectator after UFC 279 after he failed to make weight and was subjected to boos and heckles because of it.
After Khamzat missed weight by seven and a half pounds owing to supposed health concerns backstage, his welterweight bout with Nate Diaz was abruptly canceled.
Khamzat was relegated to the co-main event, where he met Kevin Holland at a catchweight of 180 pounds.
With a D’Arce choke at 2:13 of the first round, Chimaev was able to submit Holland and win the fight. He was jeered before, during, and after the battle, but he stuck up his middle finger in defiance and showed no remorse.
While recording Khamzat in a casino lobby before the bout, one fan had his phone smashed after telling him, “you didn’t make weight.”
