Paulo Costa has one more fight left on his contract and is coming off a brutal victory over former champion Luke Rockhold at UFC 278.
Costa would like to finish his contract with a fight against Robert Whittaker, who defeated Marvin Vettori with clinical efficiency this past Saturday at Accor Arena in Paris. Whittaker has a record of 24–6 in mixed martial arts and 15–4 in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
While he did defeat Rockhold, Costa injured his hand, resulting in surgery and a lengthy layoff from the cage. After beating Vettori, Whittaker mentioned stepping up to light heavyweight, so Costa is hoping “The Reaper” remains at 185 pounds.
Dana White indicated he’d be interested in re-signing the former title challenger after Costa ended a two-bout losing streak with a victory over Rockhold, despite Costa’s decision to fight out the final fight of his UFC contract.
