Joe Rogan still thinks Jon Jones is the greatest fighter of all time.
Longtime UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones hasn’t fought since defending his belt against Dominick Reyes at UFC 247 in February 2020, a bout that was widely viewed as a triumph despite the controversy surrounding it. He eventually gave up the title in order to make a transition to heavyweight.
Jones has never been defeated in mixed martial arts competition except for a December 2009 battle against Matt Hamill that ended in a disqualification when Jones was clearly dominating the fight.
He’s ready to start a new chapter as a heavyweight, but he hasn’t competed in 31 months. Jones successfully defended the 205 pound title eight times in a row, but he has been derailed on other occasions by legal problems and positive drug tests.
“The highest fight IQ maybe ever, right up there with ‘Mighty Mouse’ (Demetrious Johnson),” Rogan said.
“He’s a wild man. I had a conversation with Jon when all that sh*t was going down and I said, ‘Listen dude.’ I called him up, I’m like, ‘You are a wild motherf*cker and that’s the type of guy that becomes the greatest of all time.’
“You don’t get to be the greatest of all time just being a normal person. I go that’s just who you are. I know you made mistakes, I know you’ve done stupid sh*t, but you’re still the greatest motherf*cker of all time and you could show the world. Bounce back from this and show the world.”
