The lone women’s bout on the main card of UFC 273 is an important one for the strawweight division.
The fight between Mackenzie Dern and Tecia Torres is a clash between two strawweights in the top 15 of the MMA Junkie/USA TODAY Sports rankings.
Dern (11-2 MMA, 6-2 UFC) enters this one on the heels of a decision loss to Marina Rodriguez in the first main event of her UFC tenure. Prior to the defeat, the BJJ specialist ripped through four straight opponents, including three first-round submission finishes. On the other hand, Torres (13-5 MMA, 9-5 UFC) has hit a stride as of late and will be looking to make it four straight wins, a streak that includes an impressive unanimous decision win over Angela Hill at UFC 265.
Considering the stage of a big pay-per-view event and where both women are in their careers, who has more on the line in this matchup? The winner will once again find themselves on the shortlist for title consideration, but can the loser here find a path back towards the top of the division?
Our “Spinning Back Clique” panel of Mike Bohn, Matthew Wells, and Brian “Goze” Garcia discussed who has more at stake with host “Gorgeous” George Garcia.
