At BKFC 30, on October 1 at Louisiana’s Fant Ewing Coliseum, Rothwell will make his MMA debut against Bobo O’Bannon.
The former UFC heavyweight asked to be released from the organization so he could try his hand at bare-knuckle boxing and other forms of combat sports. While competing in the UFC, Rothwell posted a 9-8 record. His final bout, at UFC Vegas 42 in November, ended in the first round via technical knockout, a loss to Marcos Rogério de Lima.
“BKFC came with the best offer, made me very excited,” said Rothwell.
“I believe that it’s a place for me because I was doing BKFC long before MMA. So it’s something I’m a part of in my life, something my great grandfather was doing, probably not legally, but had a history of it. It’s just kinda something in my blood and I’m really excited to be with them.”
The main event of BKFC 30 will be a title battle for the cruiserweight division between Lorenzo Hunt and Quentin Henry.
