The state of Arizona has issued the former UFC champion a professional boxing license. On Friday afternoon, Silva had his application for a license from the Arizona Boxing and Mixed Martial Arts Commission granted. The commissioners voted yes as a group.
This follows rumors that he could box YouTube star Jake Paul. A Showtime pay-per-view featuring the fight is scheduled for Saturday, October 29.
“Congratulations, Mr. Silva,” the Arizona commissioner said.
Anderson Silva replied, “I’m training hard every day. I’m keeping my mind busy and healthy. I’m so excited.”
Paul, 25, is a professional boxer with a perfect 5-0 record, including a knockout victory over Ben Askren and two victories over Tyron Woodley through decision and knockout. The last time the YouTuber fought was in December of 2021, when he knocked out Woodley in the sixth round.
Paul’s reputation as a boxer has been questioned due to his lack of fights against traditional boxers; this trend is likely to continue with Silva.
